Word problem on time and distance

a distance function or metric is a generalization of the concept of physical distance. A metric is a function that behaves according to a specific set of rules, and provides a concrete way of describing what it means for elements of some space to be "close to" or "far away from" each other.Time is a component of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify the motions of objects. Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science, but defining it in a non-controversial manner applicable to all fields of study has consistently eluded the greatest scholars.Here is a problem from 8th grade math worksheets

Question:-

2 cars depart from same spot for same destination . Car A travels 60 mph and car B travels 65 mph.car B arrives 1 hour before car A.How many combined miles did car A and B travel.

Distance formula

Distance = speed x Time

given :

Let the taken = t

speed of car B=65 mph

so the time taken = t-1

speed of car A=60 mph

Let's find the distance

carA : D = 60 x t = 60t

CarB : D = 65 x (t-1)=65(t-1)

distance wise carA = carB

So 60t = 65(t-1)

60t = 65t - 65

65 = 65t - 60t

5t = 65

t = 13

So the time taken is 13 hours

based on this time and distance we also can find time period of a pendulum on moon
