Inequalities is a branch of algebra. By the name inequalities we can get that it have no equal value. An inequality is done between the dimension or sort of two things, whether the two things are equal or not. Solving inequalities is closer to solving linear equation. An inequalities problem includes one or more variable.
Word problems are interesting topics in mathematics. Word problems are determined by solving through the split and overpower method. The word problems can be separated into a smaller bits and each part can be resolved at a every time. These methods are used to solve the original word problems. Word problems include the following topics. Let us solve some word problems by using some topics.
Steps for Solving Inequalities Word Problems:
Examine the complete problem
Make a note on the main points and input the main word that you need to obtain the solution
Select the variables
Write down the inequality or equation
Resolve the problem
Obtain the solution in a whole sentence
Justify or verify the result.
Key words used in solving inequalities word problem:
At least => equal to or greater than
No more than => equal to or less than
More than => greater than
Less than => less than
Solving Inequalities Word Problems Example:
Shan calculated to buy one box with a number of pencils and he had $50. If a pencil price is $5 and a box price is $10. Find the number of boxes Shan bought.
Solution:
One pencil price is $4 and
One box price is $10.

Thus, let it be 5x and he should buy one box also. So it would be 10 + 5x
Totally, he has $50.
So 10+ 5x price would be lesser or equal to $50.
Then the inequality would be 10 + 5x ≤ 50
10 + 5x ≤ 50
Now we can find the value for x,
10 + 5x ≤ 50
Subtract 10 on either side
10 + 5x – 10 ≤ 50- 10
5x ≤ 40
Divide by 5 on either side
5x/5 ≤ 40/5
x ≤ 8
