The Cartesian coordinates refer to the combination of X , Y and Z coordinates to represent a point in a Two / three dimensional system. Generally to represent a point we use a combination of parameters called the axis (X,Y and Z axis). We use a value for each axis to describe the position of a point in the system .
Cartesian coordinate system - Explained
The Cartesian coordinates has a a point of origin, from where all the three axis originates and the distance are measured in each axis. The point of origin is generally called the ‘O’. Now to mark each point in the space we have to specify the distance of point in direction of each axis .
For example:
So If there is a point described as (x,y,z) where x, y and z are described as point in X , Y and z coordinates ex like (3,2,1) it means that point is 3 in direction of X , 2 in direction of Y and 1 in direction of Z .
Also there can be both positive and negative direction along a axis. As shown in the figure.
The negative direction can be written using ‘-‘ sign with the length. Ex (-3,2,1)
Examples of Cartesian system

One dimensional system means that we have need just one dimension to tell the position of the point . for example (3,0,0) means just in X coordinate.

Two dimensional system means we require two dimensions only to describe the point for example the (3,2,0) is and example having only X and Y coordinates and the Z coordinate is 0.
