GED Test

General Educational Development is also known as GED, which is conducted during the academic year to test the student’s knowledge in the subject. This test is mainly conducted to measure the knowledge of the students or persons who have not completed the high school. This ged consists of five subjects test. The person who qualified in this test is awarded with the ged certificate. In online, many websites, provides free practice questions. Students can utilize the websites freely to get practiced for ged. In online, many tutors help the students freely for ged exams.

It consists of the followings contents Basic Algebra, Advanced Algebra, Averages and Rounding, Basic Operations, Commas, Estimation Sequences, Exponents, Fractions and Square Roots, Geometry, Graphs, Basic Grammar, Intermediate Grammar,  Basic Math, Intermediate Math, Advanced Math, Measurement, Percents and Ratios. Let us see about GED test questions.

I like to share this Mean Test with you all through my article.

Test questions in GED

Example 1:

Solve: 2x2 + 7x + 5 = 0

Solution:

Here, we need to factorize it

2x2 + 7x + 5 = 0

2x2 + 2x+ 5x + 5 = 0

(2x2 + 2x ) + (5x +5) = 0

Taking common terms outside,

2x(x+1)+5(x+1) = 0

(2x+1) (x+1) = 0

2x + 1 = 0

Subtract 1 on both sides,

2x + 1 – 1 = 0 – 1

2x = -1

Divide 2 on both sides,

2x/2 = -1/2

x = -0.5

x+1 = 0

Subtract 1 on both sides,

x+1-1 = 0-1

x = -1

The answer is -0.5,-1

Example 2:

Find the mean for the following numbers,

10, 12, 8, 16, 20, 18

Solution:

Mean = sum of all the numbers/total numbers

= `(10+12+8+16+20+18)/6`

= `84/6`

= 14

The answer is 14.

Example 3:

Find the volume for the rectangular solid, whose length, base and height are 6 cm, 7cm and 9cm

Solution:

The formula for finding the volume is given as,

V = l*b*h

V = 6*7*9

V = 378 cm3

The answer is 378 cm3

Solved problems in GED test

Problem 1:

If a die is rolled, find the probability for getting even numbers.

Solution:

P(E) = `(n(E))/(n(S))`

Number of even numbers in die = 3 (2, 4, 6)

Probability = `3/6`

= `1/2`

= 0.5

The answer is 0.5

Problem 2:

Find the product of x5 and x6

Solution:

am * an = am+n

x5 * x6 = x5+6

= x11

The answer is x11

My forthcoming post is on Permutation and Combination and gate syllabus for production engineering 2013 will give you more understanding about Algebra.

Problem 3:

In a class room there are 50 students taking a math exam. 20 students get an average score of 70. The left over students get an average score of 85. Find the average score of the entire class?

Solution:

Step 1:

First we need to find the sum of weighted terms and multiply each average value by the number of students in the entire class had that average and sums.

70 × 20 + 85 × 30 = 1400 + 2550 = 3950

Step 2:

Number of total terms = Number of students in the entire class = 50

Step 3:

Here we need using the formula for weighted average formula to find the average

Average = Sum of terms / number of terms

= `3950/50 ` = 79

Problem 4:

A marked of the car price is 500 dollars. The company announces 8% discount on the original price of the car. What is the selling price of the car?

Solution:

Marked price of the car = 3500 dollars

Rate of discount = 7%

Actual discount amount = 3500 * `8/100` = 175 = 3500 - 280 = 3220 dollars

Selling price of the car = marked price of the car – discount price of the car

= 3500 - 280 = 3220

Therefore the selling price of car is 3220 dollars.
