Ratio:
It is a pairs of numbers which are used to formulate comparisons of two or more numbers. It is called as ratio. It can be used to compare two numbers using a fraction. It can be written as different ways such as
2 to 3
2/3
2: 3
Given three different ways are all same.
Terminology of ratio:
The quantity of ratio X and Y can be expressed as
• The ratio of X to Y
• X is to Y
• X: Y
The quantity X and Y are sometimes called as terms with X being the antecedent and Y being the consequent.

Definition of differences:
Differences:
A difference is the process of comparing or differs from one number with another number. It is used to produce the result of subtracting one number with another number.
Ratio Differences:
A ratio difference is the process of difference between two ratios. It is used to compare one ratio value with another ratio value.
Example problem for ratio differences:
If the fruit seller sells a different types of fruits that are apple, orange and banana. The fruits are in the ratio of 4 to 5 to 6. In the fruit stall, total numbers of fruits in stall are 90. If the fruit stall contains 2 to 3 to 4 ratios after the one day sale of fruits. How many fruits for that day fruit sellers sells. Compare the ratio differences? (Total number of Orange before sale= 30, after sale = 18)
Solution:
Step 1:
For the fruits, assign the variables
Let a = Apples
b= Banana
Write the given items in the ratios as fractions
Apple/ orange = 4/5 = a/30
Banana/ orange = 6/5 = b/30
Step 2:
Solve the above two equations.
Using the cross multiply the two equations
4 × 30 = 5 × a
120 = 5a divided by 5 on both sides, we get
120/5 = 5a/5
24 = a
There are 24 apples are in the fruit stall
6 × 30 = 5 × b
180 = 5b divided by 5 on both sides, we get
180/5 = 5b/5
36 = b
There are 36 bananas are in the fruit stall.

Total number of fruits in the fruit stall = Number of fruits (apples + bananas + Oranges)
= 24 + 30 + 36
= 90
Therefore, the total numbers of fruit in the fruit stall are 90 fruits.
3/a + 4/b + 5/c = 90
Step 3:
2/ 3 = a/ 18
2/ 4 = b/ 18
Solve the above equation
a= 12
b = 10
After sale
Total number of fruits = 12 + 10 + 18
= 40
Differences between two ratio = before sale – After sale
= 90 – 40
= 50
50 fruits are sells on that day.
