Area Math Problems for Kids

Area of a shape is to find out the amount of space it consumes two dimensionally. In math area of different shapes are studied and specific formulas have been derived to calculate problems on area of some frequently used shapes like triangle, square, cylinder etc.It is measured in square units.  Area math problems for kids involve finding the area for some basic shapes like square rectangle, triangle, circle.  The formulas and example problems for finding area for kids is given in the following section.

Basic shapes for kids:

The basic shapes like square, rectangle, triangle, circle for kids along with the formula for them to find the area is given below,
Square:

       Area of a square = a2
       where,
a = side length. (since all sides are equal)
Rectangle:

       Area of a rectangle = l* w
       where,
l = length of the rectangle.
w = width of the rectangle.
Triangle:

       Area of a triangle = `1/2` b *h
      where,
b = breadth of the base
h = height of the triangle.

Circle:

       Area of a circle = `pi` r2
      where,
r = radius of the circle.

Example problems on math area for kids:

Here are few example problems on math area calculation for kids,
Math area example 1:
Find the area of the square which has a side length of 3m
Solution:
Given, a = 4m

Area of the square = a2
                                   = 42 = 4*4,
Area of the square  = 16 m2

Math area example 2:
Find the area of the rectangle with length 4cm and width 2cm.
Solution:
Given, l = 4cm, w =2cm

Area of the rectangle = l*w
                                      = 4*2,
Area of the rectangle  = 8 cm2

Math area example 2:
Find the area of the rectangle with length 4cm and width 2cm.
Solution:
Given, l = 4cm, w =2cm

Area of the rectangle = l*w
                                      = 4*2,
Area of the rectangle  = 8 cm2

Math area example 3:
Find the area of the triangle with height 4cm and base width 2cm.
Solution:
Given, h = 4cm, b =2cm
Area of the triangle    = `1/2` b*h
                                      = 1/2 (4*2),
Area of the triangle  = 4 cm2

Math area example 3:
Find the area of the circle with radius 2cm.
Solution:
Given, r =2cm
Area of the circle        = `pi` r2
                                      = 3.14 (4)
Area of the triangle  = 12.56 cm2
