Regular Polygon

A regular polygon is a polygon which is equiangular (all angles are equal in measure) and equilateral (all sides have the same length). Regular polygons may be convex or star. A few examples of regular polygon is given below.
Examples of regular polygons:
  • Equilateral triangle
  • Square
  • Regular pentagon
  • Regular hexagon
  • Regular heptagon
  • Regular octagon
  • Regular nonagon
  • Regular decagon

It is very simple to draw a regular polygon. To draw a regular polygon, a pencil, a protractor, a compass and a scale is needed.

Steps with figure to draw equilateral triangle:


Following are the steps to draw a equilateral triangle.
Step 1: Draw a circle using compass

                                           

Step 2: Mark the center point and top as follows.

                                           

Step 3: We know that a circle has 360 degree.
Step 4: Equilateral triangle has 3 sides.
Step 5: Divide the circle degree (360) by equilateral triangle sides(3), we get 360/3 = 120 degree.
Step 6: Now, using protractor line up the center point and top point.

                                              

Step 7: Mark 120 degree in the protractor from the top point as follows.       
                                                       


Step 8: Repeat this procedure for the third corners, we get three point.
                                             

Step 9: Connect all three points as shown in the below figure.

                                       
Thus, we get equilateral triangle. The same procedure has been followed all regular polygons.

Steps to to draw regular hexagon:


Step 1: Draw a circle using compass
Step 2: Mark the center point and top.
Step 3: We know that a circle has 360 degree
Step 4: Hexagon has 6 sides.
Step 5: Divide the circle degree (360) by hexagon sides(6), we get 360/6 = 60 degree.
Step 6: Now, using protractor line up the center point and top point.
Step 7: Mark 60 degree in the protractor from the top point.
Step 8: Repeat this procedure for the six corners, we get six point.
Step 9: Connecting all six points, we get hexagon.
